What nourishes the woman who nurtures others?
What does it mean to be rooted and anchored in the Qur’an through the changing seasons of our lives?
أَصْلُهَا ثَابِتٌ وَفَرْعُهَا فِي السَّمَاءِ
In Surah Ibrahim, Allah gives us the image of a good word as a good tree, firmly rooted and bearing fruit by His permission. This image invites us to consider the roots beneath our own lives: what nourishes us, what steadies us, and how that nourishment reaches those around us. Join us for an evening of Qur’an, shared food and meaningful connection. Together, we will explore how our relationship with the words of Allah can deepen, sustain us through difficulty and shape the way we live. There will be space to listen, reflect and speak honestly- and space simply to receive.

Ustadha Ola Shoubaki
Ola Shoubaki is the founder of Arabic Gems and was born and spent most of her childhood in the UK. Her yearning to appreciate the Qur’an in the language in which it was revealed led her to pursue a degree in the Arabic language at SOAS University.
Ola is a British Palestinian of Gazan origin. She completed a BA in Arabic at SOAS and then spent two years at the International Islamic University of Malaysia doing a Masters in Arabic Linguistics, where she specialised in the science of Ishtiqaaq – Arabic Etymology – with particular regard to its role in tafseer of the Quran.
Ola started teaching Arabic while still a student at university, and over the years has developed an intuitive style of teaching that is sensitive to the particular problems posed to the English speaker.
Her campaign as a teacher and researcher of quranic linguistics is to try to get people to turn away from translated meaning of words and turn back to the original arabic by showing them the depths and gems that are always ‘lost in translation,’ and to this end she started the Arabic Gems Institute, which produces and delivers unique courses in English that aim to allow the students to feel and experience the essence of the Quran through its original Arabic.
Ustadha Farhia Yahya
She is a mother of two currently working in higher education. She is also a teacher of Qur’anic and Arabic Sciences, with 20 years of experience teaching English-speaking audiences in the UK. Having completed her studies in Arabic, Islamic Studies, and Hifdh of the Qur’an in Cairo, Egypt, she holds ijazahs in both Hafs and Shu’bah. She has also authored three books, translated classical Arabic texts, and currently teaches tailored Islamic courses for sisters, both online and in person.
I am a teacher of Qur’anic and Arabic Sciences, and have taught English-speaking audiences in the UK for the past 20 years. In addition to completing a BSc Biomedical Science degree in London, I’ve also completed my Arabic, Islamic studies, and Hifdh of Qur’an in Cairo, Egypt where I obtained ijazahs in Hafs and Shu’bah.
Fajr Literary is an extension of my journey — a place to gather and share what continues to inspire, challenge and illuminate. My journey has evolved into publishing books, translating classical Arabic texts, and teaching tailored Islamic courses for sisters both online and in-person.
Fajr means dawn.
And perhaps that is the simplest description of what I hope these pages can offer: a little light, just when it is needed.
