The Story So Far 2017 - 2025

We’re passionate about rekindling sisters' relationship with the Qur’an. There’s nothing like the Divine Speech of Allah—and there’s nothing better we can support our sisters with. Over the years, we’ve journeyed through heart-led projects, community challenges, and long-term programmes that bring the Qur’an back into the heart of our daily lives. What began as a passion project in 2014, became a registered charity in 2017 and we’ve been on a blessed journey. Click below to see a snapshot of some of our milestones so far. We can’t wait to build more memories centred upon the Qur’an.

Some of Our Major Projects

ANNUAL QUR’AN RETREATS 2017 & 2018

2017 – Humbling Our Hearts, with Sheikhah Wafaa Hussein Yee

Our first-ever Qur’an Retreat took place from 28th–30th July 2017 at De Vere Latimer Estate with 70 sisters in attendance. The theme centred around ayah 16 of Surah Hadid, calling us to soften and ready our hearts for the Qur’an. With sessions from Sheikhah Wafa Hussein Yee, Sister Farhia Yahya, and Ustadh Asif Uddin, we focused on rekindling hope and fear in our hearts in balance. One sister wrote: “This retreat is something that I needed, and I feel Allah has answered my du’aas.”

2018 – The Opening: Rediscovering Surah Al-Fatihah, with Dr Haifaa Younis

Our second retreat was all about going back to the basics—the Fatiha, the opener of the Book and the soul of our salah. 53 women and 3 children joined us for a weekend of tafsir, reflection, forest walks, calligraphy, and one-on-one Qur’an coaching. It was a deeply reflective and nourishing experience, giving sisters a precious pause from their busy lives to return to the Divine.

RAMADAN 22 – AOG LEGACY

In Ramadan 22, we embraced the opportunity to support not just the women in our own circles—but girls further afield. We partnered with sisters Na’ima B. Robert and Elisa Damaliti to give back to a community in Gambia through the AOG Foundation Legacy Project. This initiative set out to build a Qur’an, Arabic, and Skills Academy that would serve girls for generations to come.

Through heartfelt efforts and community mobilisation, we raised £3,023 and proudly established ourselves as cofounders of the project.

Our aim?

To equip Gambian girls with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in this life, and to pursue excellence in the akhirah. After all—when you teach a woman the Qur’an, you teach a nation.

Alhamdulillah, in Oct 2025, the school will be completed.

A full-circle moment that will bring tears to our eyes. What began as a seed in Ramadan has bloomed into a real-life space of learning, sisterhood, and sacred knowledge. We look forward to travelling to Gambia to witness it’s opening and supporting the school long term in sha Allah.

SURAT AS-SAJDAH CHALLENGE

That same Ramadan, we launched a memorisation challenge: Surat As-Sajdah, a powerful surah with 30 ayat, often recited weekly by the Prophet ﷺ. The challenge was free, with optional donations going towards the AOG Academy. It included daily reminders, reflection prompts, accountability, and live sessions. Sisters supported one another, deepened their connection to this beloved surah, and experienced the barakah of committing to the Qur’an together.

Qur’an Development Programme - QDP – Walk with the Qur’an

Now entering its 6th year, the Qur’an Development Programme (QDP) is a flagship initiative that was born out of a desire to help sisters build a consistent, holistic, lifelong, and reflective relationship with the Qur’an. What started as a small Halaqah in 2014 before we registered as a charity has evolved into a dynamic, growing community of committed Qur’an seekers.

The heart of QDP lies in tadabbur

Deep reflection in our mudarasah, group study of the Qur’an. Through weekly group sessions, structured journaling, and heart- based learning, participants are supported to connect personally with each verse, nurture their inner transformation, and walk with the Qur’an in daily life. By the grace of Allah, we have now completed a full Khatmah of the Qur’an with tadabbur (2023) and are currently partway through our second Khatmah, a journey that has brought together women from across the globe.

QDP has become

More than just a study circle – it’s a safe haven, a space of healing, sisterhood, and sincere growth. One of the most valued parts? The hifdh and memorisation coaching—something that previously felt like a stumbling block for many. With buddy systems, group revision, and encouraging coaches, sisters finally felt seen and supported on their journey.

QUR’AN COACH TRAINING PROGRAMME (QCTP)

To take our impact even further, we launched the Qur’an Coach Training Programme: a unique training and development experience designed for advanced Qur’an students who wanted to guide others. We selected a diverse group of 10 women—from different backgrounds and walks of life—who were eager to support others with heart and humility.

They:

- Studied tajweed theory and Qur’an recitation - Completed modules on hifdh and memorisation - Reflected deeply through journaling and coaching calls with senior coaches - Delivered over 1500 hours of coaching as part of the Qur’an & Me programme

The greatest strength highlighted by coachees?

Consistency and the “bitesize” nature of the support. Our next step is to review how to develop our Masterclasses into a more fluid curriculum that continues to meet women where they are and to recruit another batch of coaches.

THE QUR’AN: MY CLOSEST COMPANION 2025

This was more than just an event—it was a spiritual homecoming. Hundreds of sisters gathered for a deeply moving evening. United by one heartfelt desire—to make the Qur’an a source of solace, strength, and steadfastness, especially with the current trials facing the ummah and our personal lives. It was an evening of real talk, reflection, and reconnection. Of hearts softening and tears falling. Of remembering that no matter how turbulent the world becomes, the Qur’an will always be our anchor. We left reminded that the Qur’an is not just a Book to be read, but a Companion to live with.

INTERNALISING JUZ ‘AMMA

In collaboration with the inspiring Ustadha Abeer Sadary, we hosted a monthly tafsir series focusing on the most oft-recited surahs in our daily prayers—those of Juz ‘Amma. 132 women joined us to unpack the deeper meanings, spiritual gems, and life lessons from each surah, leaving with a renewed sense of connection, awe, and purpose.

THE QUR’AN & ME

A heart-centered, soul-nourishing live talk show and workshop series—in person and online—with renowned speakers, teachers and sisters of reflection. With teachers like Sumayah Hassan (2017), Dr. Rania Awaad (2024), and many more, sisters got to hear powerful stories about each speaker’s personal journey with the Qur’an.

What made it truly special?

The chance for attendees to reflect, act, and plan for their own Qur’an relationship through interactive workshops. Always paired with: - Beautiful venues - Thoughtfully curated reminders - Nourishing food -  And the best company It became more than a programme. It became a memory-making, soul-awakening experience.

This is just the beginning,

in sha Allah. From reflections to routines, from retreats to revival—we’re here for the journey back to the Qur’an, together. We’d love to have you on board! We love to hear from sisters with ideas for how we can support them and the community with the Qur’an please do reach out via email or on our social media channels to let us know how.
